SEXUAL DECEPTIONS & MIS-CONCEPTIONS #5

SEXUAL DECEPTION & MIS-CONCEPTION #5: It’s my body, I can do what I want with it! I recently received an email from my son-in-law with links to a well-known singer whose songBishop Chipp included the following lyrics: “It’s our party we can do what we want, It’s our party we can say what we want, It’s our party we can love who we want, We can kiss who we want, We can screw who we want.” This sentiment towards our ability to exercise our wills is nothing new! God made us with the ability to exercise volition or what some call free will. However, it’s vitally important that we understand that the ability to exercise volition and the right to exercise volition are two different things! I have the ability to decide I’m going to rob someone of their possessions, but that does not give me the right to exercise my will in that way.

From a biblical perspective, consider what the Word of God says about your body. The Bible says Jesus Christ died on the Cross for the sins of the world. In others words, Jesus paid the penalty for the world’s sin with His very own sinless blood [or life – for the life is in the blood; Leviticus 17:11]. But not only did He suffer for our sins, Jesus redeemed (purchased) us from sin’s prison and dominion. We belong to Him (God)! We all belong to God! We were bought with a price [spirit and body], which is the blood of Jesus and we are not our own. Consider the following scriptures:

“What? Know ye not, that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have of God, and YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN [my emphasis]? For you are bought with a price: THEREFORE GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY AND IN YOUR SPIRIT, WHICH IS GOD’S [my emphasis].” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“Forasmuch as you know that ye were not redeemed [purchased/bought] with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation [lifestyle] received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb [sacrifice] without blemish and without spot.” – 1 Peter 2:18-19

It is clear from the scriptures above that we are not our own; that we belong to God, spirit and body. Did you get that? Spirit and BODY! Jesus purchased us not with money or silver and gold, but with His pure, powerful, precious, and sinless blood! So the truth is; it’s not your body and you cannot do whatever you want to do with it! Not without negative consequences! In fact, the word of God specifically tells us that our bodies are not to be used for fornication [sexual immorality]; nor can we do as the song lyrics say, “We can SCREW who we want.” That is – not without serious consequences.

“…Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.”   1 Corinthians 6:13

” Flee fornication, Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18

Perhaps some would say, “I’m not a Christian and the bible does not apply to me.” Well, I want you to know Jesus did not sacrifice Himself for Christians only, He died for the world! ” For God so loved the World that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16  You may not be a Christian, you may have rejected or denied God’s love and salvation in Jesus Christ, but Jesus still purchased you with the blood of His Cross! Your body still belongs to Him (God). When we deny the Lord who bought us, it only leads to destruction in our lives!

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, EVEN DENYING THE LORD THAT BOUGHT THEM [my emphasis], and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 Peter 2:1
